What a fantastic day!
The sod-turning ceremony for the Darling Health and Sport Centre could not have been a more special day. On 30 May 2009, the official sod-turning ceremony for the Darling Health and Sport Centre took place and everyone was there! In true Darling-style, the ceremony was unique with Tannie Evita taking on the monumental task of turning the first sod. Tannie, immaculately dressed, thrilled the assembled crowd with her sharp wit and deep commitment to Darling. She valiantly wielded her spade with great aplomb. Tannie then stood back and let the bulldozer begin it's work. Tannie mingled with the crowd, taking photos with the very excited citizens of Darling. After Tannie departed, the braai began and the entertainment continued. The braai was a great success with just under 200 tickets being sold.
In her speech, Tannie Evita launched a competition to name the new Centre. The project has been run under the provisional name of the 'Darling Health and Sport Centre', but the real name of the Centre will be chosen by the Darling community.
Fundraising continues for the Centre, with just under R390,000 still needed to complete Phase 1A.
Music and Art Evening
On 27 May 2009, we enjoyed our mid-year Music and Art Evening. What a special night! The music children had been hard at work rehearsing their pieces for the recital. They performed beautifully. Evita se Perron, where the Music and Art Evening was held, was full to capacity with parents, families and friends all coming to support the students. After the music recital everyone moved across to the Arts and Crafts Centre to view the children's art exhibition. What beautiful art! The guests then enjoyed a cup or tea and coffee and had a chance to chat to the teachers and the other parents. The Music and Art Evening is always a very special event and we look forward to the next one, to be held in October this year.
We're all a twitter
As part of our campaign to spread the word about The Darling Trust, and also stay in contact with our donors, friends and fellow NPOs, we have become more involved in social networking. Our first step towards this came with the starting our blog in October 2008. In February of this year we launched our new look newsletter which is currently in its 5th month. The next step? Twitter! It is a great way to keep you updated on the latest developments at The Darling Trust. It's also a great way to network with other NPOs! Our Twitter feed can be found on both the blog and the website. Or follow us on Twitter directly.
